Moving from Shopify to CartOS? This guide helps you transfer your products, customers, and orders while minimizing downtime.
Before you start
Before beginning your migration:
- Create your CartOS account and complete basic setup
- Export your data from Shopify
- Plan your migration timing (ideally during a slow sales period)
Step 1: Export your Shopify data
In your Shopify admin, export the following:
- Products: Settings → Products → Export
- Customers: Customers → Export
- Orders: Orders → Export (for historical records)
Download these as CSV files.
Step 2: Import products to CartOS
CartOS accepts Shopify's CSV export format directly:
- Go to Products → Import in CartOS
- Select "Import from Shopify"
- Upload your products CSV file
- Review the import preview and confirm
Product images will be automatically imported from Shopify's CDN.
Step 3: Import customers
- Go to Customers → Import
- Upload your customers CSV file
- Map fields if necessary
- Choose whether to send account invitations
Step 4: Set up your theme
While Shopify themes aren't directly compatible with CartOS, many CartOS themes offer similar functionality. The visual editor and Liquid templating will feel familiar.
Step 5: Configure payments and shipping
Set up your payment providers and shipping rates in CartOS. If you use Stripe with Shopify, you can connect the same Stripe account to CartOS.
Step 6: Transfer your domain
Point your domain to CartOS by updating your DNS settings. See Connecting a third-party domain for detailed instructions.
Step 7: Final testing
Before canceling Shopify:
- Place test orders on your CartOS store
- Verify all products imported correctly
- Check that customer accounts work
- Confirm payment processing
Note: Keep your Shopify store active until you've verified everything works on CartOS. You can then cancel your Shopify subscription.
